Increasing your chances of getting work everyday
Being a casual releif teacher with any recruitment agency can sometimes be difficult to get work every day, have you ever wondered why some teachers get work every day? There are several things you can do to ensure that you get consistant placements with ANZUK Teachers.
- Have your phone turned on in the evening and early in the morning
The nature of Casual Relief Teaching (CRT) and Supply work means that you will get calls outside of normal school hours. As an agency we need to act fast to book our teachers in and to let clients know who will be arriving to cover their lessons. If you have your phone off out of school hours we have to move onto the next person on our list so keep your phone turned on ready to go.
- Be Available and Reliable
Reliable teachers get plenty of work. It’s that simple. By being there when we need you we will return the your positive efforts to ensure that you are working when you need the work.
- Let us know your availability in advance
If you know that you are not going to be available let us know in advance so that we don’t waste our time in the mornings or afternoons calling you and leaving messages. A simple text message is all it takes.
- Give us a call if you are really keen for work
Chances are that we are receiving calls for teachers very early each school morning. If you are up and ready to go then don’t be afraid to call your local office to see what we have to offer. If you ring before we get a chance to dial a teacher then it’s going to make it very easy for us to book you in first.
- Be Flexible
Ideally every teacher that works with ANZUK will be placed within a 10 minute walk from their front door…that’s what our consultants aim for. Unfortunately we cannot always be miracle workers. 45-60 minutes is a normal commute time. If you are happy to travel in any direction for this amount of time you are putting yourself in a good position to be busy all the time.
Although not the most ideal situation it is also a good idea to makes yourself available to teach outside of your learning area. Confidence here is a major factor in making sure that survive your day; just remember, your students will see you as a teacher in the first instance. More often than not you will have a work schedule to follow which will help you keep your students on track. You are not going to change the world in one day so try not to be confrontational; just remember to be approachable, helpful and friendly to your students.
Remember the Rules
- No Tabloids, Broadsheets, Books or Magazines are to be taken and read during class hours. This will be done to your own detriment.
- Keep your phone switched off during lessons (check it discreetly at recess and during your lunch time if you need to).

- Be as punctual as you can. Leave home well before you are required at school. If you do get called late then try to get to the school as safely and promptly as you can.
- Always follow the schools discipline procedure (ask for this procedure when you arrive at a new school).
